Dr. Daniel G. Amen’s latest book, Unleash the Power of the Female Brain: Supercharging Yours for Better Health, Energy, Mood, Focus, and Sex, is a kind of homage to his wife, mother, and five sisters.

Did you know that most medical doctors don’t know much about nutrition? It’s true. Maybe they’ve taken a class in medical school about the basics and, unless they pursue nutrition further, they really don’t learn much about it. As a result, they often tell their patients that if they eat a “balanced” diet, that’s all they need to maintain good health.
Although I’ve told my patients about the health benefits of bee propolis before, some recent research has shown its properties to be particularly useful to people over 50. So, I’d like to update some new findings about this simple bee product that has so many outstanding health benefits to humans.
The American Gastroenterological Association issued the following news release: A healthy and balanced diet, as well as probiotics, have been known to be helpful in preserving gastrointestinal health for quite a long time. But it is only recently that the underlying mechanisms have become somewhat clearer. A rapidly increasing body of knowledge promises to further clarify the effects of our daily food on the gut microbiota and to indicate more targeted applications of probiotics in the near future. It’s a fact of life. More and more middle aged Americans experience vision impairment of some form or another from simple inability to read fine print to cataracts, which affects more than […]
At least one Big Business is listening to its consumers. Nestlé announced this month that they will no longer be using artificial colors in its candy products and the chocolate makers hope that other food manufacturers will soon follow suit. Artificial colors were highlighted in EWG’s recent Dirty Dozen Guide to Food Additives because of lingering questions about their safety and effects on human health. EWG research shows that artificial colors are heavily used in processed foods that have little nutritional value. The additive is an ingredient in about 12,500 products in EWG’s online food database, Food Scores: Rate Your Plate. Over the last 40 […]
