Moringa Vegetable Soup

In Africa and Asia, where protein-rich moringa plants grow in abundance, people add the tiny leaves to soups and stews just before serving. The leaves are wilted by the hot liquid but are not fully cooked, so their vitamins stay intact. I also like the flavor of moringa combined with antioxidant-rich squash, eggplant, and okra (another African ingredient). For this soup, any smoked fish, such as salmon, can be used. To make this soup vegan, use vegetable stock in place of the chicken stock and omit the fish or fish sauce. To give this soup an Asian flair, add […]

What Foods Can Help Us Detox Our Bodies?

We can overwhelm our liver and its ability to pull toxins out of our body; yeast and parasites can inhabit our bowels; and secondhand smoke and air pollution can affect our lungs. So, about once every few months, or whenever I’m not feeling well, I go on a detoxification regimen. I like to cleanse my whole system through herb-spiked liquids, healing foods, and nutritional supplements. Pure water may be the ultimate detoxifying flush for kidneys, liver, lungs, and bowels, but green tea is also excellent.  Here is a list of my top 10 favorite detoxing foods: Artichokes Daikon radish Chia […]

Huffington Post Praises Moringa and FoodTrients

Darryle Pollack, author, artist, cancer survivor and writer for the Huffington Post, recently praised the positive effects of moringa that she learned about after meeting Grace O and reading up on the miracle plant on FoodTrients.com in The Age GRACEfully Cookbook. Almost unknown in the United States, its popularity is growing worldwide thanks to what many believe are its health benefits — ranging from boosting immunity, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, controlling blood pressure, blood sugar, increasing breast milk, even headache relief. “With a boost from Grace O’s culinary creativity, moringa could soon become a household word,” says Darryle in her […]

It’s Snack Time! Chips with All of the Flavor and None of the Guilt

Autumn is here and with it the World Series, football season and other get-togethers, but what would these gatherings be without a few snacks? Now I practically NEVER buy things like chips for my own home, but honestly, if I’m at someone’s house and they’re out there, I’ll give in then regret it later. Thankfully, today there are more tasty and healthful options available. One place to see many of these is at the Natural Products Expo that takes place in Anaheim, CA in the spring each year. The FoodTrients team was there in force back in March, walking the […]

Moringa Adds Spark to Artichoke Appetizer

Potassium is also integral to skeletal health. It enhances nerve and muscle function while reducing the risk of osteoporosis, stroke, and kidney stones. This FoodTrient also keeps blood pressure low and maintains hydration. It can be found in significant amounts in bananas, figs, bitter melon, kiwi fruit, prunes, lima beans, acorn squash, moringa leaves, potatoes, and spinach. My simple Moringa Dip combines moringa leaves, olive oil mayonnaise, and sweet pickle relish. For an extra potassium punch, add steamed spinach. You can also make a potassium-rich vegetable soup with lima beans, acorn squash, and potatoes starting with a veggie stock. After […]

Discover the Miracle of Moringa

Very few Americans have ever heard of the moringa oleifera plant, but in Africa it’s a life-saver. It needs very little water to grow and its leaves offer a full complement of protein, minerals, and nutrients to both humans and cattle. When Africans cook with moringa, they throw the tiny leaves into soups and stews
