As I’ve been telling my story these past few years about how I developed an anti-aging cookbook based on the food-is-medicine principle, I’ve expanded my method for creating delicious, comforting recipes designed to keep you young, healthy and beautiful. It’s a lot easier than I imagined.
That’s the focus of The AGE BEAUTIFULLY COOKBOOK: Easy and Exotic Longevity Secrets from Around the World. The recipes are mainly quick and easy to make, and will introduce readers to age-defying foods and flavors from around the world, with a focus on beauty that emanates from the inside. As I have said many times, even the most expensive creams on the market can’t do as much for your health as feeding your body the right nutrients can.
The most beautiful people I know are not model perfect. They are people who wear a gorgeous smile along with their glowing skin, bright eyes, healthy body and positive energy. They look good because they feel good. But eating well doesn’t mean sacrificing the foods you love or giving up satisfying, great-tasting meals.
Growing up in the Southeast Asia, I experienced exotic foods, spices, and dishes from India, Asia, Spain, Hawaii, and Europe. Helping my mother in her culinary school from the time I was old enough to assist taught me the skills of a trained chef. When I was nineteen years old my mother died and the culinary school became my responsibility. I managed to carve my own place in the food world—launching food trends, writing a weekly column for the newspaper and opening restaurants.
My father was a physician who taught me a great deal about diet and health, so when I arrived in the United States over twenty years ago, I easily transitioned into the world of health care. Today, I own and operate several skilled nursing in California.
But I have never lost my love for cooking. As I learned more about the effects of food on disease and aging, I was compelled to get back in the kitchen and create a cookbook that fused international and American flavors, familiar and exotic ingredients, and powerful nutrients that help the mind and body fight the diseases and wear and tear of aging.
The result was my first anti-aging cookbook—The Age GRACEFULLY Cookbook: The Power of FoodTrients® to Promote Health and Well-being for a Joyful and Sustainable Life. Based on the food-is-medicine principle, it features easy and flavorful recipes based on twenty-six nutrients in food that help prevent aging. I call these nutrients FoodTrients.
Since the publication of the first FoodTrients cookbook, I’ve continued to develop new flavorful and comforting recipes designed to keep you young, healthy, and beautiful.
For my new cookbook – The AGE BEAUTIFULLY COOKBOOK, I searched far and wide for better ways to incorporate the best nutrients into mouth-watering dishes that promote health and beauty—from the inside out. Each of the 100-plus recipes in this book is designed to deliver the nutrients you need for longevity with the flavor you demand and the tools you can use to enjoy a lifetime of beauty.
Each recipe provides the origin of the dish and alternatives for some of the ingredients (particularly if they are more exotic). Special symbols identify the recipe’s benefits to health and beauty from the following eight categories:
